How to Verify a Chinese Supplier Is a Real Factory, Not a Trading Company
How to check if a Chinese supplier is a real factory: the credit code lookup, business scope, address checks and video walks that expose a reseller.
GoldenBuds manufactures LED grow lights, aquarium lighting, and photobiomodulation panels for brands worldwide. If you sell these products under your own brand, or want to, we handle the engineering and production while you own the market.
We are an OEM factory, not a trading company. That distinction decides who answers your email during a certification problem twelve months after your first order.
Start here whether or not you have decided to work with us. The buyer guides below are written to be used on any supplier, including this one, because a supplier who objects to being checked is telling you something.
These three pages are the vetting path, and they are ordered the way the decisions actually happen. Read them in order and you will ask better questions than most first-time buyers do.
And one number that gets quoted more loosely than any other: what MOQ really means for LED lighting orders.
If your volume is below the point where custom engineering makes sense, say so early. We will point you at the private-label route instead, and it is the better value for both sides.
| Product family | Typical wattage | Main markets |
|---|---|---|
| Quantum-BOARD panels | 45W - 100W | Home, hobby, small commercial |
| Spider-style bars | 120W - 240W | Grow tents, small rooms |
| Vertical-farming fixtures | 120W - 240W | Commercial farms, greenhouses |
| Multi-head and double-ended bars | 120W - 320W | Contract growers, resellers |
| Dimmable and dimming-ready drivers | All | Retail brands with SKU ladders |
| Aquarium LED lighting | Freshwater and reef | Retail and OEM brands |
| Photobiomodulation / red light panels | 30W - 300W | Wellness brands, contract manufacturing |
The two non-grow-light lines are worth a note. They mean the tooling, SMT, and assembly capability is shared rather than dedicated to a single product line, which lets us spread a tooling investment across a larger base. Their buyer guides are separate: aquarium LED light manufacturing and red light therapy panel OEM.
We are a good fit if you are a brand, distributor, or retailer who needs your own brand on the product, you can work at a volume of roughly 100 units or more per model, and you are targeting a market with defined electrical and safety requirements.
We are probably not the right supplier if you need a single unit for personal use, you need a certified, retail-ready product before your company is registered in a country that requires a local applicant for certification, or you need delivery in under two weeks from a specification that does not exist yet. We would rather say this early than take a deposit and discover it in month three.
| Trading company | GoldenBuds | |
|---|---|---|
| Owns tooling and production | No | Yes |
| Who designs the driver | A third party, or a catalogue part | In-house, with your sign-off |
| Who absorbs a warranty claim | Passes it to a factory | Answers it |
| Changes to your spec | Routed through a factory | Made directly |
| Sample lead time | Weeks, resold | Directly from the line |
| Minimum order | Whatever the factory asks | Set by us, and negotiable |
Any supplier can claim to be factory-direct. The test is whether they will walk you onto a line on video without cutting away, and whether they will give you the business licence. Both of those requests are cheap, and we answer both of them.
We are a low-MOQ factory: from 100 pcs per model, which is a low minimum for a factory that tools and certifies its own fixtures. That figure is per model, not per order, and it is negotiable upward as your volume grows. It is also not the whole picture: a custom spectrum, a bespoke housing, or a new certification will each add their own one-off cost and lead time on top.
If your first order is smaller than that, tell us anyway. We would rather propose a realistic route and an honest timeline than lose you to a supplier who said yes to something we cannot deliver.
| Market | Usually required |
|---|---|
| European Union | CE (LVD + EMC + RoHS), sometimes EN 62471 photobiological safety |
| United Kingdom | UKCA |
| United States | UL or ETL for retail, FCC for EMC, DLC for utility rebates |
| Canada | CSA or cUL |
| Australia / New Zealand | RCM |
| Japan | PSE |
| Middle East | G-Mark or country-specific schemes |
We produce the technical file, coordinate the testing, and hand you the documentation. One thing to settle early: test reports are model-specific and often issued in the manufacturer’s name. If your brand needs the certificate in your entity’s name, that is a different and more expensive job. Ask before you commit.
Or send us a message with your market, target plants, wattage, and annual volume, and we will come back with a configuration recommendation and a quotation.
